A 7HourSleep, we believe that sleep is fundamental to a child’s growth learning and overall well-being. Our ‘Sleep Well, Learn Well’ program offers a structured and engaging approach to educate primary and secondary school learners about the critical importance of sleep. Through this initiative, we aim to equip students with the knowledge to recognize sleep disruptors and implement effective strategies for enhancing their sleep quality.

The goals for the sleep education program are:

  • Educate students
    o Foster an understanding of the physiological and psychological benefits of sleep
    o Highlight how good sleep contributes to improved cognitive function, emotional balance and physical health

  • Identify Sleep Stealers
    o Teach learners to recognize common obstacles to good sleep, such as excessive screen time, stress, poor nutrition and environmental factors
    o Encourage self-awareness regarding personal habits and their impact on sleep

  • Promote Healthy Sleep Practices
    o Provide students with actionable strategies to cultivate better sleep hygiene
    o Empower them to make informed choices about their daily routines that support restorative sleep

Our program consists of

5 interactive sessions, each designed to engage students and facilitate learning:

  • Introduction to sleep:
    – Defining sleep and its essential functions
    – Discussing sleep cycles and what happens in the body during different sleep stages
  • Sleep stealers:
    – Identifying external and internal factors that disrupt sleep
    – Conducting group discussions and activities to share personal sleep challenges
  • The science of sleep:
    – Exploring the profound effects of sleep deprivation on learning, memory and mood
    – Presenting case studies and scientific research to illustrate these effects
  • Improving sleep quality:
    – Teaching students effective sleep hygiene practices, such as establishing bedtime routines and creating a sleep-friendly environment
    – Introducing relaxation techniques like mindfulness and deep breathing exercises to help unwind
  • Sleep Champion:
    – Encouraging students to become advocates for healthy sleep within their schools and families
    – Facilitating group presentations where students share their learning and commit to promoting better sleep habits
